The Honda HR-V hits its Silver Jubilee this year, which marks almost a quarter of a century of dependable driving by Honda’s compact crossover star. Also known as a “Hi-rider Revolutionary Vehicle”, it is a consumer favorite for many reasons, which include its comfort and efficiency.

Last year, an all-new version of the HRV debuted and the 2024 model is its second-ever showing. Its Sport trim level is the best choice on the hierarchy by several experts, as it is a balance between the entry-level and top trims.

So, the following is a review of the 2024 Honda HRV Sport, and its highlights:

Features

The Honda HRV is currently in its third generation that debuted for the 2023 model year. As expected, it is a completely refreshed vehicle that shares its underpinnings with the Civic sedan. The HRV is offered in three trim levels, with the Sport being the mid-level trim.

As a result, it offers you the best of both worlds – many standard features but with a small price tag. It is loaded in terms of convenience and safety amenities. Since this is the Sport model, there are several differences on the outside to give it a more aggressive look.

As far as changes are concerned, there are none for 2024 as the model just debuted last year.

Powertrain and Numbers

The 2024 HRV Sport is available with a 2-liter 4-cylinder engine good for 158 hp and 138 lb-ft. It sends this power to the front or all four wheels via a CVT gearbox. The HRV models share this setup with the 2024 Honda Civic, among other things.

The 2024 HRV Sport can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in around 9 seconds, which is a decent number for the class. In terms of the towing capacity, there’s no information available from Honda so towing is not recommended.

Meanwhile, the HRV Sport should be an efficient daily driver. Evidence of this are its EPA ratings, as the agency rates it for 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, when you opt for front-wheel drive. All-wheel drive drops these numbers to 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Interior and Technology

The 2024 HRV Sport comes with an eye-soothing interior. Like the other new Honda vehicles, the company also offers the hexagonal mesh design dashboard on the HRV models. The material quality is solid, and you have more than enough space for all five occupants.

Then comes the trunk which shouldn’t disappoint any buyers. It is adequately sized and makes HRV Sport 2024 a class leader in this regard. You can increase this even further if you fold down the second row of seats. The cubby storage should also be satisfactory.

You get black cloth seats and upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. For technology, there’s single-zone automatic climate control, push-button ignition, keyless entry, and heated front seats.

The infotainment system comprises a 7-inch touchscreen, a set of six speakers for the stereo system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth capabilities. You also get several USB ports and power outlets for enhanced connectivity.

Then there’s the safety department, where you get niceties like automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist), traffic sign recognition, forward collision warning, a backup camera, and adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is optional.

Exterior and Driving

The all-new Honda HRV 2024 stands out in the highly competitive world of crossovers, especially in terms of its looks. It is a stunner and HRV Sport even more so. This is thanks to its add-ons such as the sport front grille and 18-inch gloss black alloy wheels w/black lug nuts.

If you want an even more aggressive look, the HPD package should complement the HRV Sport very nicely. It adds lower trim upfront, on the sides, and on the back. You also get a tailgate spoiler, and a custom emblem and badging to add even more uniqueness.

The following are the exterior colors available on the 2024 Honda HR-V Sport:

  • Urban Gray Pearl
  • Crystal Black Pearl
  • Nordic Forest Pearl
  • Milano Red
  • Platinum White Pearl

The HRV Sport should be an enthusiastic, yet well-mannered vehicle to drive. The engine provides a constant flow of power and is very refined. There’s no body lean or understeer, and the steering has a great feel to it. The braking is superb as well.

Testers have also praised the quality of the ride. This is thanks to the independent rear suspension system that helps all the 2024 HR-V models iron out any blemishes on the road. The cabin is also a quiet one.

Reliability and Warranty

The 2024 Honda HRV hasn’t been rated for reliability by JD Power yet. We can rely on last year’s data though, in which the 2023 model gets an average score of 75 out of 100. Consumer Reports puts this year’s model a bit higher, expecting it to be more reliable than average.
The reviews from actual owners are also positive. On top of that, there’s the limited warranty of 3 years/36k miles and a powertrain warranty of 5 years/60k miles. Honda is one of the few automakers to offer complimentary maintenance for 2 years/24k miles.

Verdict

The 2024 Honda HRV Sport is a must-have if you’re looking for a small crossover vehicle. This is because it is very refined and has great driving dynamics. You can rely on it to provide you with a smooth ride without depleting the fuel tank.

On the inside, you get a spacious cabin and a capacious trunk. The build quality is solid and so are the material choices for the class. There’s a long list of standard features offered. It should also prove to be a reliable vehicle that should come with excellent aftersales from Honda.
