FAQs
Understanding Your Protection Plans
- What is GAP coverage? GAP (Guaranteed Asset Protection) covers the difference between your primary auto insurance payout and the remaining balance on your vehicle loan if your car is totaled or stolen.
- What is a Vehicle Service Contract? A Vehicle Service Contract (VSC) is an extended protection plan that covers the cost of parts and labor for eligible mechanical and electrical repairs after your factory warranty expires.
- What is Pre-paid Maintenance? Pre-paid maintenance allows you to pay for upcoming routine services (like oil changes and tire rotations) in advance, locking in today’s prices and protecting you from inflation.
- What is Tire and Wheel Protection? Tire and Wheel Protection covers the cost to repair or replace tires and wheels if they are damaged by everyday road hazards like potholes, nails, or debris.
Refunds & Monthly Payments
- Will cancelling any of these products lower my payment? No. Cancelling a protection product will not lower your monthly payment. Any refund issued will be applied directly to your loan's principal balance, which reduces the total remaining balance and can help pay off your loan faster.
- When I cancel a product, will I be refunded 100%? (Refunds are 100% refundable if cancelled within the initial window (typically 30 to 60 days, depending on the contract). After that window, refunds are calculated on a pro-rated basis based on time or mileage used, minus any applicable processing fees.
- Can I use my cancellation refund towards the purchase of another vehicle? If your vehicle is financed, the refund check must legally go to the lienholder to reduce your principal balance. If the vehicle is paid off or has a equity balance after payoff, any remaining funds can be applied toward a new purchase.
Mechanical Failures & Dealer Obligations
- If I cancel, isn’t the dealer required to cover mechanical failures? (No. Unless explicitly covered under a remaining factory or certified warranty, pre-owned vehicles are sold "As-Is." Without an active service contract, the vehicle owner is financially responsible for all mechanical breakdowns and repairs.
- Doesn’t my auto insurance cover mechanical failures? No. Standard auto insurance only covers damage resulting from accidents, collisions, vandalism, or natural disasters. It does not cover internal mechanical failures, electrical malfunctions, or wear and tear.
Before You Cancel: What You Need to Know
- Talk to a Manager First: We strongly recommend contacting a manager at your purchase location before canceling. Removing coverage can significantly impact your vehicle's value and your out-of-pocket repair costs.
- Required Documentation: To process your refund, you must provide proof of current mileage:
- Active Ownership: A photo of your odometer or a notarized odometer statement.
- Traded-In: A copy of the Odometer Statement or Purchase Agreement from the new dealer.
- Total Loss: A copy of the insurance settlement documents.
- Important Details:
- Timeline: Please allow up to six (6) weeks for processing.
- Lienholders: If you have a loan, contact your lender if the refund isn't received after 6 weeks.
- Accuracy: Providing inaccurate mileage is considered fraudulent and will void the request.
