2023 Honda Odyssey EX-L Review
The Honda Odyssey is one of the biggest success stories from Honda in the past three decades. This is no surprise since it has offered everything a family-oriented consumer could want – reliability, efficiency, comfort, safety, and amenities.
In the past couple of years, the Odyssey models have also focused on providing high performance to their owners. It has broken the stereotype that minivans are supposed to be boring and slow.
The 2023 Odyssey looks to do the same here as we look at the highlights of its EX-L trim. The following is the 2023 Honda Odyssey EX-L review:
Features
The Honda Odyssey is currently in its 5th generation which was refreshed back in 2021. It offers a set of 5 trims, with the EX-L being just above the base model. As a result, it adds numerous amenities and optional extras to the already well-equipped EX model.
It also comes with 1 engine option, that’s nonetheless worthy of a large minivan, which helps it accelerate quickly and tow when you need to. While the overall trim lineup received some changes this year, the EX-L model pretty much remains the same.
Powertrain and Numbers
A 3.5-liter V6 engine powers the 2023 Odyssey EX-L and it makes 280 hp and 263 lb-ft. This power is sent via a 10-speed automatic to a front-wheel drive system. As you can tell, this setup makes it more athletic than many classic sports cars.
This can be seen in its acceleration abilities as the 2023 Odyssey EX-L can complete 0-62 mph in just 6.5 seconds. It is also quite capable if you like to tow once in a while; it is able to pull trailers weighing up to 3500 lbs.
Honda’s minivan is good for 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway according to the EPA. While these are great numbers for the class and the powerplant under its hood, its real-life fuel economy has been recorded to be even higher at 30 mpg on the highway.
Interior and Technology
As expected, Honda has given us a functional and sophisticated interior in the 2023 Odyssey, which also soothes the eyes. The 2023 Odyssey has been lauded for how roomy it is, especially its last two rows. All of its eight occupants are sure to enjoy the ride.
An ample amount of praise has also been given to how versatile the seats are. The Odyssey’s rear seats can be moved around or removed altogether to make way for cargo. This is overkill for many as the trunk is large enough already.
The all-new Honda Odyssey 2023 is also stocked with luxury amenities and high-end materials. While the base EX model has all the standard features one could hope for, the EX-L does even better here. There are leather-trimmed seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
We begin with the interior color options available on this vehicle:
- Black Leather
- Gray Leather
- Mocha Leather
- Beige Leather
You get tri-zone climate control, push-button ignition, keyless entry, a powered moonroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a powered tailgate. The driver and front passenger seats are 12- and 8-way power-adjustable respectively – both are heated as well.
The infotainment system is also state-of-the-art thanks to an 8-inch touchscreen mated to 7 speakers, plus a subwoofer. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included and so is a set of different power outlets.
Of course, Honda also offers a suite of standard safety features as well. You get automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), traffic sign recognition, lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist), blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.

Exterior and Driving
While it is mainly known for oozing practicality, the Honda Odyssey is also a good-looking minivan. The 2023 Odyssey EX-L comes with 18-inch alloys, power sliding doors, LED headlights, and foglights.

The following are the exterior colors available on the 2023 Odyssey EX-L:
- Crystal Black Pearl
- Lunar Silver Metallic
- Platinum White Pearl
- Modern Steel Metallic
- Radiant Red Metallic II
- Obsidian Blue Pearl
- Pacific Pewter Metallic
Then you have its drivability, which is just the best in the class. This minivan isn’t just about providing quick acceleration; handling is a pretty important factor as well. The Odyssey EX-L handles, corners, and brakes brilliantly. There’s also the Intelligent Traction Management system (w/Snow Mode) to maintain grip no matter the surface.
But despite all that, the Odyssey EX-L keeps its occupants comfy. Testers say that the suspension is tuned to absorb any blemishes on the road and the overall cabin atmosphere is very quiet.
Reliability and Warranty
JD Power has good things to state about the Odyssey 2023 (EX-L included) and has given it a reliability rating of 81 out of 100. It has also ranked the Honda minivan at the top of its list. Consumer Reports also expects it to do decently in this regard.
Furthermore, the aftersales offered by Honda are outstanding. There’s a limited warranty of 3 years/36k miles, a powertrain warranty of 5 years/60k miles, and complimentary maintenance for 2 years/24k miles.
Verdict
With that, we declare the 2023 Honda Odyssey EX-L a masterpiece. The new Odyssey is a minivan for the ages and its EX-L model is a great trim to select if you want more for less. We have already established that its engine overshadows the ones available in all of its peers.
It provides us with the right mix of performance, fuel efficiency, and hauling abilities. At the same time, it doesn’t lose its refinement. You get a brilliantly designed cabin that not only seats all the occupants with ease but also provides a serene environment for them.
There’s a lot of versatility offered as the seats in the back can move around and increase the cargo space even more. Also, the reliability ratings for the Odyssey EX-L 2023 are admirable so it is a dependable vehicle. Plus, you get complimentary maintenance for a limited period.
