June 14th, 2022 by

The Honda Civic is a vehicle that needs no introduction. It has always been able to win the hearts of consumers due to its looks, fuel efficiency, and drivability – all at a reasonable price. The current model is an all-new variant of the Civic and it should be able to accomplish what its predecessors have. So, how does it fare up then? Well, it is time to find out with a 2022 Civic walk around.

The all-new 2022 Honda Civic models come with 6 trims and 2 engine options. Part of the 11th generation of Civics, the 2022 model has been completely redesigned inside and out. You get a sedan and a hatchback model to choose from. Both of them offer many amenities, including all of the top-notch drivers-assistance systems.

Engine and Numbers

The 2022 Civic is offered with a choice of 3 engines. The first one is a 2-liter 4-cylinder which makes 158 hp and 138 lb-ft. The second engine is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder turbo which produces 180 hp and 180 lb-ft. These are some of the highest numbers in the small sedan category.

The new Civic comes with a CVT which utilizes a front-wheel-drive system. If you are a Civic enthusiast and you want a 6-speed manual gearbox, then you can opt for the hatchback variant. But no matter who’s doing the shifting, a 2022 Civic will give you a 0-62 mph time of about 7 seconds.

The new Civic has great fuel economy figures. According to the EPA, you can get a maximum mileage of 33 mpg city and 42 mpg highway on the turbo. The larger and more basic engine isn’t far behind with a maximum fuel average of 31 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.

Interior and Technology

This new model features a good-looking interior with a honey-comb-type mesh pattern on the dash. Everything looks very orderly and the interior is very functional when you see that all the buttons and knobs are where they’re supposed to be.

There’s quite a bit of legroom and headroom so it is spacious and comfortable. You also won’t have to worry about the cargo space as there is plenty and an improvement from the outgoing model. There is a generous number of cubbies for storage as well.

Below are the trims for the new 2022 Honda Civic. Note that the sedan and hatchback versions share similar features but the naming of the top two trims is slightly different, i.e., EX/EX-L and Touring/Sport Touring.

2022 Civic LX

The new Civic range starts from the LX model. It offers you automatic climate control and cloth seats. You get a 7-inch infotainment screen and a sound system with 4 speakers.

There is a host of standard safety features as part of the Honda Sensing package. It includes automated emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and more.

2022 Civic Sport

The Civic Sport adds some more standard goodies such as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and paddle shifters. The stereo is also upgraded to an 8-speaker audio system.

This one’s more luxurious with its heated front seats and a powered moonroof. You also get dual-zone automatic climate control and heated side mirrors. The safety aspect is enhanced with a blind-spot monitoring system.

Exterior and Driving

The new Civic’s exterior is certainly an eye-catching one and like all previous models, it is very stylish. The sportier models have their own accents to enhance their looks. You can get standard wheels as large as 18 inches on the 2022 Civic.

The exterior colors on the Civic are the following:

  • Crystal Black Pearl
  • Lunar Silver Metallic
  • Meteorite Gray Metallic
  • Platinum White Pearl
  • Aegean Blue Metallic
  • Rallye Red
  • Boost Blue Pearl
  • Sonic Gray Pearl
  • Morning Mist Metallic
  • Smokey Mauve Pearl
  • Blazing Orange Pearl

Just make sure to check which ones are available for the trim that you’ve chosen.

The Civic has always been great to drive and this model is no exception. Everything from the acceleration to the handling is superb. The ride is a lot more refined as well. It is a clear example of why a higher-end Civic Si or a Type R isn’t necessary to have fun. It should be noted that these 2 models are on their way to the market as well.

Reliability and Warranty

The new Civic is quite dependable as a Honda should be. JD Power has given it a score of 82 out of 100 which puts its reliability in the Great category. Consumer Reports has also considered it to be favourable with an average predictable reliability rating. The feedback from the vehicle’s owners online is positive as well.

If you’re still not sure about its dependability, then you’ll be glad to know that the Honda Civic is covered by 2 warranties. There is the limited warranty which is good for 3 years/36k miles and the powertrain warranty which will do up to 5 years/60k miles.

There is a solid reason why the 2022 Civic has received awards from Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, and US News – it is just that good. From its good looks (inside and out) and functional design to its respectable list of standard equipment and high performance, the Civic offers nothing but high value.

It is inexpensive not just to buy, but to own as well due to its high fuel efficiency. The reliability ratings are great and it is one of the safest in the compact sedan category.

To sum it all up, it is a true Honda Civic and you should definitely get one with your eyes closed.
